Ayana Yonesaka
Contemporary Dance director/Children’s ballet instructor
Born and raised in Sapporo Japan, Ayana Yonesaka began modern dance at age seven, performing in Japan, Russia and China. In 2009, she moved to San Francisco to study dance at SFSU, where she was a part of University Dance Theatre for three seasons, including organizing and managing the company as student director for her final season. She also developed a passion for choreographing and was selected to present her first piece at the 2013 American College Dance Festival. Graduated cum laude with a B.A. in dance, she currently teaches ballet and contemporary while working with various companies in the Bay Area. She is the director and a dancer with Ayanadancearts. She works with SFSU dance alumni as well as other bay area professionals to present original and relevant works. Ayana often sets her choreography for the SFSU dance department as well. She has been and SFYBA faculty member since 2009. She is a beloved childrens’ instructor as well as the contemporary director at SFYBA.
