What We Do
Since 2002, The San Francisco Youth Ballet Theatre (SFYBT) has held specially priced performances for community-based organizations serving under privileged and/or inner-city youth. It performs in venues easily accessible by Muni trains and buses. Some organizations include Wu Yee Children’s Services, Children of Shelters, Edgewood Family Services, Big Brothers & Sisters of San Francisco, and the San Francisco Boys and Girls Club among others. SFYBT has also visited many branches of the San Francisco Public Library and various elementary schools in the SF Unified School district to present free performances for the children over the years.
SFYBT’s repertoire consists of an annual holiday Nutcracker as well as Coppelia, Les Sylphides, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Peter and the Wolf, Sleeping Beauty, and Alice in Wonderland.
SFYBT collaborates with dancers from professional, various nationally and internationally recognized ballet companies who perform with dancers of all ages from the San Francisco Youth Ballet Academy to provide the cast for some of the larger performances. Guest dancers basically volunteer their time to promote and expand SFYBT’s mission.
Fundraising subsidizes SFYBT programs and allows SFYBT accomplish its mission of community outreach.
